Subject: RE: Reducing N with hog manure

Liquid hog manure is a LOT different than beef or dairy manure.

~75% of the total N in liquid hog manure is in the ammonium form, the other roughly 25% is organic N.

The portion that is in the ammonium form is 100% available almost immediately and needs to be treated similar to Anhydrous Ammonia.      If you wouldn’t put NH3 out 9 months before you plant the crop that it is supposed to be for, I wouldn’t put the hog manure that early on either.     We try for 50*F soil temp and falling before applying manure in the fall.  That usually means very late Oct/early Nov.
