South Central MN | You forgot the part where the boyfriend owns a place, rents it to the mom of his kids, she collects food stamps as well as housing assistance, plus whatever else help is available, then he moves in and has his mail sent to his mom's house (or a friends place) so it appears he does not actually live with his girlfriend.
Nowadays it seems you get penalized for getting married.
