When I was selling JD, at the time these were being sold the 8870 was suppose to have a added water jacket line at the bottom of the head to protect or cool the head because of the added power & the 8770 did not have this. on its head. I had a 8770 tractor with the 12 speed synchro & the tractor for the 6350 hrs we had it was very good. Neighbor has the supposidly bullet proof N14 Cummins & in 6000 hrs is on the 3 rd engine.
