If he really does have a great sense of humor, get him running shoes. That will either make him laugh or mad, hopefully you know his humor well enough. Also get a real gift. I like the audio book suggestion, maybe a couple months or a year membership. Movie ticket? Does he have family to visit? You could pay his/their way to visit each other. Battery powered seat warmer or massager for his chair.
