I run 20 cows and a bull year round on 32 acres and cut hay once or twice on about 7 acres a year. The hay I cut is enough for winter and I do not bring in outside feed other than cubes to pin them about 8 times a year.
That is with 4 separate pastures but only split it into 2 nearly equal sized pastures.
Then 5 miles away I run 83 cows and 3 bulls on 450 acres.
Then you could almost definitely increase your stocking rate if you allowed your paddocks more rest. You'd also end up with a more diverse array of species as many species require a longer rest to properly take root.
There is a reason why all the largest and most profitable ranches in North America use techniques from grazing experts like Jim Gerrish--they work. At this point, anyone who is not applying this knowledge is leaving profit in the pasture.
