Southeast | This is the problem with using a breaker for motor control, especially with hard to start loads. If you over size the breaker to handle the inrush there is no motor protection. A good motor control will have an overload relay to monitor running current and the inrush current threshold can be adjusted.
It is also a problem when running multiple motor loads on the same breaker. If everything is running you can have reasonable protection but once one thing is turned off the breaker is only providing short circuit protection at that point. | |
