Get a cheap thermal imaging gun or camera that connects to your phone. Loose wires, breakers, fuse clips, joints all cause heat and will cause a breaker to trip. Also if using a breaker to start motor loads it may be necessary to oversize the breaker 250% to carry startup current. Wire size will need to match breaker size and temp ratings of lugs. Time delay fuses are much better at handling startup current.
When dealing with motors, wire size does not need to match breaker size. It's code that breakers can be oversized for the wire feeding a motor, since the inrush/ starting current lasts for such a short period of time, provided that everything is working correctly. |
