Nevada, Iowa | I have been air drying for a long time and I don't have a good answer. I'd be tempted to put it on top because as mentioned, your slowest drying front will be in the wet corn and there's no need in rewetting the dryer stuff. The cfm won't change much after the bin is full and you can monitor the wetter corn better if it's on top. That said, I wouldn't be opposed to blending loads or alternating loads if it's possible. Just make sure you have enough fan to do the job. It is getting later in the season and we should expect cooler temps. That will increase your safe storage time but it may slow your drying rate too. Let us know what you do and how it works out. Also, if you have a working stirring machine in the bin, I would use that and not be concerned about what went in first. I know they are a pain but they can really be a useful tool in air drying. | |
