Were they crimped with the 4 tooth Buchanan tool or just mashed with one of the cheapo single tooth ones found on cheapo wire strippers ?

The proper crimper is not cheap to buy so many just use whatever they have available if they don't do a lot of wiring projects. 

Personally have never seen any of mine or Dad's properly crimped Buchanan splice caps with issues others mileage may vary.
