Subject: RE: Observation.

Macoupin county Illinois
in my area we've had steadily increasing numbers of redheads the last 5 years or so. any roadkill or a dead calf or deer would draw a big crowd, at least 5 or 6 birds maybe more. It was common to see 6 or so birds just flying around up high looking for deads. This year there were definitely fewer of them, i rarely saw more than 2 at any roadkill site. these were all redheads, except for 1 pair of blackheads that nested in an old barn of mine 2 years ago, these were the first blackheads i'd ever seen. None of them ever bothered the calves. I've also seen a bald eagle eating a dead deer. I've wondered why the reduction in numbers this year, possibly they're able to travel farther north , warmer summer up there? anyway, i don't miss them much.
