Central North Carolina

ntexcotton - 9/15/2021 14:17 If we go back and look at the last normal trade it would be 2019 and all we should care about on here is agricultural trade. 2019 data shows Canada and the US a net zero. Ag products for both countries was 24b. Mexico was a net importer of ag goods until 2015. In 2019 the deficit was 8 billion on 20b of us product vs 28b of Mexico product. Mexican beer and snack foods make most the difference.

I take exception to the part in bold. We all have family, neighbors, friends, communities where non-ag trade matters to their lives. My son for example works for an Australian drug company with most of their manufacturing operations in north carolina. My daughter work here for an investment banking company based out of Switzerland. My grandchildren will have nice lives because of those jobs,. Ag income around here won't support that kind of life any more. Most farming communities around here have seen their communities decline due to manufacturing jobs lost due to unfair trade. Fighting with China over this will put ag at risk. I am ok with that and i think if you look around your town you might agree.

The nature of trade is that we make things you might need and you make things we might need. When each side does what they do best everybody benefit from trade.
