Texas & western Iowa

Yeah it’s out a little ways from things. More and more of the farm fields out that way have disappeared due to housing developments. I was kind of surprised while coming to a stop sign at the intersection of Butcher Rd and FM813. There directly across to the east is new construction for yet another development being excavated.

Parts of the movie, “Places in the heart” were filmed not far from the Rockett Cafe. The farm house where Sally Field’s character in the movie lived is still standing as is the barn. It sits away from FM813 to the west.

When coming down Highway 77, which is east of 35E, just look for the Exxon station at the southeast corner of Butcher Rd and 77. There’s a signal light there. Turn east onto Butcher and just keep going straight. You’ll go past a church to the right and then a little further up is a school. There are houses on both sides of the road. Eventually you’ll come to a stop sign where Butcher Rd meets FM813. Turn left on 813 and just follow it until you’ll come across a short bridge over a creek. Might be a couple miles. The cafe will be on the right. The second parking lot is on the left.

I had no idea about the filming at Rockett Cafe. Pretty cool.

I've eaten a meal at Northside Cafe in Winterset Iowa (Bridges of Madison County). Then been to visit Roseman bridge. The bridge is a shrine of sorts. Hand written notes all over it. The visitors are what I'd describe as 'reverant'. There surely is a certain 'feel' when visiting there.

I've lived all over Texas. Started life in the Permian Basin. Spent a good bit of time working livestock with my grandad in the hill country. Much of it during the screw worm outbreak unfortunately.
Then to Houston for a while, but still back and forth to the hill country. Hated Houston, but picked up a decent wife.
Came up to Ellis county to be closer to family. Not all it's cracked up to be it turns out. Worked in Corsicana and Ennis. I'm between Waxahachie and Midlothian for the duration looks like. Still have the decent wife.....lol. :-)
