NEWI | In reality, I was going for a version of the 3 sisters.
It really all depended on soil type and weather… where the corn did great the clover stayed small till next spring, where corn was stunted (wet spot) the clover took off. Sunflowers seemed to do really good in the corn with no ill effects as far as I could tell.
Please note (we take everything for forage so cant say anything on how it would be for combining).
The sudex was planted after 1 disk pass. Fall prior we harvested frosted off millet- so did not have a cover that winter.
So, some of my best new seeding in the last few years has been notilled into a winter rye/winter triticale…. That was notilled into a sorg sudan mix after the 2nd cutting.
Pics below are from a field that was sorghum mixed with 2lbs/ac sweet clover then winter trit notilled in after cutting. Liquid manure applied before sorg planted.
1st pic - 2nd cut taken 7-20
2nd - 1st cut taken 6-6
3rd - notilling alfalfa into winter trit 4-5
