Subject: RE: organic: cover crop between row crops?

NEWI
When we used to plant corn (for silage) we planted clover and sunflowers with it. Clover went through the insecticide (gandy) box. Sunflowers were mixed in with corn.
We no longer rotary hoed but still cultivated (1-2x) clover was planted on the side of the row (within the rolling shields).
Clover (mix of sweet blossom and red) would come back the next year and could work in or take a cutting.

We dont grow corn anymore but do a lot more with mixes. Ex: a mix we get from our seed dealer has sorg sudan, ryegrass, clover. We get a 2 cuttings from this the planting year and then the clover and ryegrass comes back the next year for an additional cutting in spring.

Pic order 1- mid season corn, 2- corn after cultivating, 3- clover next spring, 4-sorg sudan mix, 5- next year regrowth
