Winterset, Iowa | This is just my own opinion and I'm not an agronomist but I think the combination of all the wet weather and the cool summer (lack of heat units) is why this is happening. In other wet falls the corn has still been reasonably dry but with the grain moisture being so high this year it makes for a great atmosphere for the mold to develope. I just think that those high moisture ears, wrapped in those shucks with all the rain is kind of like putting the wet corn in a bin and just letting it sit there. Like I said, just my opinion. | |
