Pilot Grove, Missouri
Pulled a 23' Allis 1400 FC (no harrow) home last December 200 miles from KS with a 1/2 ton. Had walking tandems and good hitch weight. I took my high torque Milwaukee Fuel impact and took all the shanks and wheels off the wings and put them in back. Center section on a 1400 is only 9' and taking the shanks off made it pretty easy to tow even on narrower 2-lanes. Greased the wheels and tandem pivots well before leaving. Checked them along the way and never got warm. Also had safety chains on the hitch, magnetic tow lights and ran a 10K ratchet strap through hitch to each side to take the slop out of the hitch. Put another ratchet strap between the two wings as one of the wing transport locks was messed up (easy fix once I got it home). Could run 60+ on good wide roads when there was little traffic. Worked good.
