Anamoose, ND | Looking for a washer that holds a lot of clothing and gets them clean with out it taking an hour or more. Needs to fit quilts with out eating them. Dryer needs to fit large loads and quilts. They need to fit in a small washroom/utility room. Was looking at Speed Queens but wife did some reading and they say they are not as good as they once were.

| Stay away from Samsung. Oh they look nice with their big washer tubs and dryer tubs. Currently dealing with a Samsung now that won’t store or show any trouble codes yet it clearly has a problem. Nothing I’ve tried or read as solutions has fixed the problem. Beginning to suspect a major component replacement is the only solution. It’s only three years old. | |||

Cumberland County, TN | CND - 4/19/2021 23:34 ... they say they are not as good as they once were. There's not many things these days that are as good as they once were. I taught Industrial Electricity at the local tech center and one of the other teachers brought in a front-loader for us to repair. It had a bad main bearing. (You know, the one that the whole tub spins on.) As it turns out, that bearing costs almost as much as a new machine! We just kept the motor and scrapped the rest of it. One thing that's atrocious about the new machines... they're "energy compliant" and are designed to use much less water. They STINK! Quite literally. A lot of people think that their septic tank is venting back into the house but it's the washing machine! Go to the grocery store and look at all the products they're selling to "clean" the washing machine. HUH? That's like having to clean a bar of soap. Why would you need to weekly clean out your washing machine? Because they don't use enough water to rinse them out and they build up mold and bacteria inside of them - and they STINK to high heaven. Oh, well. That's life in the 21st century. At any rate, I decided to buy a top-loader that doesn't use that incredibly expensive bearing. There's no transmission either. The motor drives the tub directly. It's a "Maytag Commercial Technology" with a 10-year warranty. But it still stinks if you don't run some powerful disinfect through it. As far as the big quilts and things... yeah, it'll handle them - but for heavy duty stuff like that, I go to town and use one of their big Wasco-Mat outfits and save the wear and tear on mine. Thumb of Michigan | I was told you can purchase one of two types of machines today. Cheaper machine that will last 4-5 years or more expensive ones that will last 8-10 years. The choice of a longer lasting ones isn't available anymore. Build them lighter and to use less water is today's mandates. Both mandates are for 'more energy efficiency' purposes. Washing machines that are built to last 15-20 years have become non-existent. It's a different world, more of a throw away society even.

WC MO | We just were at menards and they have a Maytag 'commercial' and it has a bit longer warranty on certain parts, dubious about what is actually commercial quality. It is about $700 as compared to a $1100 speedqueen. Tough decision. Is your new maytag a 4.3 size tub? That is bigger than we need but that was the one at menards. Can get 11 percent back as well. WC MO | One thing i will say is that if you dont really need a new dryer, dont buy the pair. Our dryer has outlasted two ( going on perhaps a third) washer. We are debating the cost of a SQ over a Maytag to replace a front load kenmore. Also, availability is a problem in appliances.

ND | Its not commercial build you are buying, you are buying around the water eco friendly mandate that covers consumer application.

southern nebraska | Funny, or not so funny. My 90s maytag just like your Pic just yesterday sprung a leak. Seal leaking under tub. Probably could have been fixed but went the new route. I bought a speed queen dryer about 3 years ago and told the guy I'll get it's match when my washer died. Called the guy and he laughed, be lucky to even get on a list to get a new one and no idea how long it will take to get one. Settled with another maytag with 5 year bumper to bumper warranty and he promised me that it won't last 6 years. He also said that the speed queen won't last either.

Central Iowa | We did have to put in a tub seal last year. Local Maytag man did it no problem. Still washes every day. Repairman told us when ever he gets a machine like ours, he fixes it and sells it to one of the local BTO hog producers to use in one of their hog buildings. Edited by Kornkurt 4/21/2021 19:15
