I tried to tether with my pearl and it worked but was very slow, now I'm sure that had a lot to do with the signal where I was trying it (weak) so I can't say it wouldn't work for you. My phone is ATT and my aircard is verizon, I have no complaints at all about the speed of my aircard, it is just about as fast as our high speed at home!
