If the sprayer is empty you can fill with water and run a configuration test.  If the issue is the valve stalling out at fully open it should happen during the configuration test and throw the same warning.  If the issue occurs when the valve is fully open and trying to open further to increase flow, you can prevent this by lowering your speed or your GPA to keep your GAL/MIN below fully open valve position.
