Central PA | I have been fighting a tierod tappered end coming out of the knuckle for the third time on an AGCO RT110A (tractor not important). First time it happened looks like the previous owner put the tie rod end in a worn hole. while doing front end work, had a machine shop bore out the knuckle and make an insert tappered to match the tie rod end. New tie rod end installed, torque down well. Now 4 month later, nut came loose, then off again and tierod wore insert and came off knuckle.
My first suspicion is the taper the machine shop did was not perfect and thus could not keep it tight. normally that taper locks in and resist coming out even with big force hammer.
Dealer recommended trying locktite 97473 superior metal ....
description ...
"Non-rusting, ferro-silicone-filled epoxy
Extremely high compressive strength and wear resistance
Ideal for rebuilding worn surfaces exposed to harsh environments
Can be machined, drilled and tapped in 6 to 8 hours
For final finish cuts, let the product cure for 24 hours and use carbide tooling
Spreadable putty
Sets in 20 minutes "
Any thoughts on using this instead of going the machine shop route again or replacing the knuckle$$$ ? I'm just about to weld the tierod end to the
knuckle :( | |
