Blvd d'Espair Bowhill, Sth Aust | Similar story to you Peter, which isnt surprising seeing as we are only about 25 Kms apart.
I also have discovered some frost damage ( total kill ), and you would realise that is highly unusual for my location, but it doesnt appear to be general.
I am quite startled at the number of deadheads appearing, which I think are mostly Takeall/Haydie, rtaher than Crown Rot. Doesnt bode well for 2010, especially if Alan Mackay's suggestion of a wet Spring setting us up for a bad disease season next year is accurate. Starting to contemplate replacing my usual Triadimefon in the fertiliser with Flutriafol perhaps. But then a wet summer and autumn period would help to break down the infected crowns, if what we were taught 20 years ago is correct.
While writing this, I just spoke on the phone to NoTill Pete, and he also is quite alarmed at the amount of whiteheads and some frost kill.
I'm currently sitting on 217 mm rainfall since Jan 1.
My long term average Jan 1 to end of October is 246 mm, and to end of Dec 287 mm.
PS Apart from Tony Payne, how many guys around do you know with Buloke barley? We need to find them to arrange for a Buloke segregation at TAI
Pic below is Des Andriske attempting to hypnotise Peter Rose at Des' AGRICHEM seedcoating nutrient trial in my Correll wheat. : )
