I understand how confusing these decisions can be.
IMO the first question you have to answer is are you committed to keeping your current planter for a few years?
If so, I would recommend a Gen 2 or 3 precision planting monitor with Fieldview. My first priority would be active downforce. Can find used airforce systems pretty cheap. Obviously delta force is better but it gets expensive if you have 23 rows.
The precision planting finger meters are really good. Yes you can get slightly better results with electric drive vacuum meters. Again, with 23 rows, the costs add up fast. You can find hydraulic drives pretty cheap. If you decide against electric drives, I would advise you to get electric clutches rather than air clutches.
How committed are you to writing variable rate prescriptions and using them? Once you buy the variable rate equipment, then the fun begins. You either write your own or pay someone a few bucks per acre to write them for you. Either way it is not an exact science.
Lastly, I would ditch your current closing wheels and go with something like a Schaffert Zipper. | |
