North Central Illinois | We've had good snow cover since January. About 12" out in the open. I dug through it where I have rye and winter peas at the end of our string of below zero nights and the peas were still green and soil surface temperature was in the mid 20's. As long as we can melt the snow without ponding followed by freezing to make ice sheets, this will be one of the best winters I can remember for the survival of the winter crops. | |
