| In N.C. we normally don't start planting SRW wheat until mid October (now) and have planted all the way until till the second week in December with decent success.
As far as seed bed prep. some here notill all their wheat while others do light tillage 2-3" deep. I normally like to drill on 7.5" but have broadcasted over tilled ground then ran a brillion cultipacker with the s tines slightly in the ground in the past with great success.
I have always double cropped beans behind wheat since I already have a lot of organic matter left from the wheat straw.
Here is a good article if you are planning on planting wheat. http://www.smallgrains.ncsu.edu/Guide/Chapter15.html
