I'm looking to plant some cover crops into my soybeans on my last cultivation. Really wanted radishes. The top growth would be the concern though. Thought of running oats in and hoping they mature and blowing them out the back.
I don't really want to do it at leaf drop as I'll have a nice airflow setup on the cultivator already for covers going into my corn.
Any experience or other ideas to limit harvesting issues?
Do not do oats or radishes. Radishes will not do well in the shade. Oats will be a foot tall and green at harvest.
Annual ryegrass may work if moisture is correct. If it does get some growth to it, it will feed through the combine well. I would also try some crimson clover and rapeseed if you want a brassica. All will over winter unlike your oats and radishes so be ready to manage in the spring.
