So what if you use a little more fuel while combining. If you save a bunch up front the fuel expense shouldn’t matter. Besides have you ever rode in a combine and said to your self “this thing just has too much power”?
Listen to that guy ↑↑↑
We run a 8010 with a 12 row 20" head (20' same as a 8 x 30") and it works great. I've never regretted getting a big combine.
No, we do not run it at full capacity doing corn. 3000 bph is about the max that we run, we can't haul it away that fast most of the time anyway so going faster just = more combine sitting still.
This fall we even did some custom work with a 6 x 30" head on it. You burn a little extra fuel/acre but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter that much. Rotors do not have to be kept full to do a good job. You just need to adjust your machine to the conditions.
