I think if your older deed is seen, and in order, your view will carry a lot of weight. But you don’t want the other side to work up more paperwork for their side.....
As mentioned an attorney would be a good idea. They know the right avenues to travel and which bits of paper are the right hot buttons to have.
Or, it’s mine I have this 19xx govt issued deed saying it’s mine, I can sell it to you for this much, or I get an attorney and the price goes up. Friendly, but firmly. Your conversation, not his.....
