South Central MN | First off I will say the grass seems greener on the other side of the fence, corn has issues too.
It gets a bit dry and/or too hot at the wrong time and you might be looking at a whole lot of barren stalks. Or a wind lays it over close to harvest and then it won't stop raining either and it goes to heck.
Market for it depends a lot on the area and the end users. If you are in Texas it might depend on the export market too.
Not trying to talk you out of it just keep in mind it might not be as easy as the hay, can rotate acres and depending on how your crystal ball works to hit local demand. Here i wish I had more than corn and beans, small grains are a wash even with selling the straw, hay can be tough to put up some years too. | |
