Middle Tennessee | I don’t own a combine but I have a friend who usually harvests my crops with his combine when he is close by getting his. He planted his beans later than I did this year so it could be a month or so from the time that mine are ready to when he would be available to harvest them. He is a much bigger farmer than I am and although I do pay him fair rates, he does it more as a favor for me and not really for the money.
I realize that there are many variables, but how much yield could I lose in soybeans by waiting to get them harvested? The beans are Dynagrow 4.8 variety planted at the end of May in Middle Tennessee. They have good shatter resistance but I don’t want to push my luck.
I have some other neighbors that may be able to get them, we just haven’t confirmed if they can or not and haven’t discussed what they would charge. I’m just trying to decide how much I should pursue getting someone else to harvest my beans because I don’t want to lose yield. | |
