I’ve never seen corn that did not look darker green facing away from the sun. Some more so than others. Maybe all our corn is deficient? Oliver green one way, Deere green the other.


That is the perfect description of color difference. Yes my organic corn is deficient early on before higher N availability and that's when I think about this topic while cultivating. The neighboring conventional corn has much less of a difference when viewed from different direction.


I see difference in color in all corn, but more in neighboring corn than our organic, if it’s at the same growth stage. We use hog manure and it’s available early. We have a 10 acre field that we put on extra manure to see how it would do. It looked darker green and sooner than across the road, for a month or so, but all looks the same now.
Earlier planted gets darker green earlier as you would expect. I think that throws people off. Many of my neighbors planted nearly the same time as us this year.
