We've decided to stay an independent too. We are 200 sows farrow to finish. We are both 55 and I expect to stop farrowing in about 2 1/2 years after we are done with this bunch of gilts .. that I start breeding in 2 weeks. We do not have gestation crates and I no longer wish to be beat up by 600# sows when vaccinating. Plus, my hands can't handle the constant processing of newborn litters. I do have a part time teenager to help but.... hard to find and keep. The one right now is at football practice and is hurt again. (that's a very long story )

Most of our buildings are over 20 years old but well maintained. The packing plant is 15 miles away. These facts make it so we can keep going.

Got to go powerwash a nursery room. Good luck to you too.
