We've had probably a dozen batwings at work. Woods. Deere. Bush Hog. When the seals leak the mechanics put grease in the gear boxes. Mowers probably get 500 hours a year on them. They probably get ruined when hitting a stump or rock before the bearings fail though. Not saying its what you should do but its something to think about depending how much you use it.
I know its different but I've had red grease in my 8' snow blower for probably 20 years. It takes a beating. Still goin.
