With yard sprays it might be a mixture of both. With beans being as sensitive to dicamba as they are and cotton really sensitive to the 2,4D how much damage happens from those homeowner products. Anybody can buy it quart bottles but buy a gallon jug and you need a license and subject to different rules.

I’ve seen ACRES of cotton completely smoked because someone sprayed a fence line down the road from a field. I’m talking 6-8 acres, not just a few ugly plants.
Go to Home Depot and read a couple labels. You will see PLENTY of Dicamba, 24D, and even Diaquat in those “Off the shelf” products.
Just like the guy that buys three 40 lbs bags of fertilizer for his 40x30 yard and our heavy rains wash it right down the storm drain.
