Sometimes, when I use the return to home, and it looks like it is going to miss the launch pad, I stop the RTH and land it manually, when it's about 2- 2 1/2 feet off the ground.  As far as the glare, make you a little 3 sided box out of light cardboard to slip over the top on your I pad.  I've had to do that for other monitors.
