South Central MN | Guess I haven't gotten sick of farming yet but rather all the events going on and how I would have reacted had I known what was going to happen...
Should have sold/contracted the corn in the bins when it was around $3.50 rather than the sub $3 it is now. (Yes, counting basis as I need to.)
Should have "bought up" on crop insurance to 85% + the extra add on to 90 or 95% coverage, could have cut back a little more on spring fertilizer. My luck though the stuff would still gross $1 per acre over what insurance would pay out however.
I'm young enough yet that I could invest in specialty crops with far better rates of return than corn or soybeans and actually get to see a profit. That and small kids who might want to farm someday are keeping me going. | |
