Mid Michigan | Jim people are habit driven. We get a routine and we like to stick to it. People go to work everyday and talk fondly about their familes and how much they miss them....until they have to be around them all day! That takes a person out of their normal routine. The normal routine is that your co-workers become closer in many cases than your actual family. You spend 8-12 hours with the cute girl that works across from you or laughing and joking all day with the cute secretary or for the women, the handsome teacher in the other classroom. You dress up and get cleaned up and spend the best part of your day sharing all your thoughts with these people, celelbrating holidays, events, dinners, luncheons, goodies etc. Then they go home and the wife is tired and wearing sweat pants and no make up and the kids are sick and cranky and the dogs are yapping, cats scratching the furniture and the bills need paying and they endure this for a couple of hours every night and fall asleep and do it all again the next day. What part of the story sounds better? I think this forced stay and home containment is going to cause some major issues and seperation anxiety. Workplace bonding has become extremely imortant to people. We've been doing it a long time. You watch a retired person that's been working 40 years and take them away from the group. They become extremely lonely and miss their commrades. I just ran into a couple of them the last week that worked 40 years with me. Immediately wanted to know the status of work. People miss that. Staying home is not the norm for most. Maybe it was at one time or should be but it's definitely not now. | |
