We gave up trying to get a good stand in no-til beans. Ground doesn't have enough gaps or to hard. Not sure what, just know that even putting on rye at just before leaf drop didn't do nearly as well as it did before. Ryegrass may be a different animal though. Put on just as leaves are starting to turn. When you get in with the combine there should be a green carpet.
