2) Wheat lodges as a result of many factors (but probably these, in this order are the most frequent culprits): Excessive head densities. Poor standability (probably taller) varieties. Excessive early N rates and higher fertility environments (which generally both combine to cause to the first factor listed). Stem based diseases in a wheat after wheat environment also cause lodging.
Is it too broad to assume the majority of the lodging I see is the result of too high of a head count?
And while I have you on the phone: NDSU rates varieties for leaf disease, outside of rust. Tan spot and septoria; mainly tan spot in our area. My question is how much of a difference, really, is there between a rating of "Moderately Resistant" and "Moderately Susceptible?" |
