The proposed regulations will do nothing to stop that. If someone wants to do harm you think they are going to use an off the shelf drone with geo fencing? They will go open source with open source hardware. It can be downloaded from GitHub. Lots of stuff out there already.
All it’s going to do is kill a hobby enjoyed by many. I wouldn’t be an electrical engineer if it weren’t for the model airplanes flying at the Valmy, WI Theresheree in the late 80s. I was hooked immediately. Building and flying them with my grandpa got me into the electronics side with the early electric models that came out.
How much inspiration will be lost by these overreaching proposed regulations? Who will want to jump through all the hoops for a hobby? Look at what the FAA did to general aviation? Regulated it to death.
