Plus one more thought:
Machinery is made to last only a certain amount of time: manufacturers need you to replace them every so often! They engineer them in a way that there are parts that will need replacement: those parts are called spare parts.... and manufacturers make a living out of these parts: it's a business line and a profit center! They have extensive knowledge which parts are most needed and when they are needed. They sometimes even 'organize' shortage of such parts to increase their value, hence their retail price!
Oh well it's just my wild imagination that started venting!
