![](/profile/get-photo.asp?memberid=197&type=profile&rnd=230) Nth New South Wales Australia | Wheat can range from 5-6tonnes/ha down to not much in a drought year but on average we would look for around 2.2tonnes/ha,so the main purpose for the wider rows are giving the plants more room as we have very low seeding rates(15-25lbs/ac)and they will tiller a lot if moisture allows.Wider rows also allow faster planting in some situations as we use a straight tyne with a tyne mounted press-wheel i.e wider row=less dirt throw into next row.A typical airseeder set up this way would be expected to do 10,000 acres so time taken can be important particually this year when we had several holdups with wet weather.Our 60ft rig did over 11,000 acres this season.
