Subject: Best stand ever this year.

Still a few things to tweak. One is planting depth. We are now at 1 and 3/4 inches for DC beans. No risk of crusting and it seems the top 1 inch of seed trench drys out fast. This year is the first year we saw beans before a rain.

However, we used a 7240 in 15 inch spacing. Was having trouble with the wet straw. Noticed last year that if we planted with the wheat straw in "order" the stand was much worst. So this year we only planted while the combine was running. Big help. Second, with the constant rain, we had wetter straw than usual. So, one 100 lb front end weight was added to each unit. We placed them where the insect hopper should be. Marked improvement. Only downside was the senior management questioned our, lets say, rigging skills.

The answer seems to be letting the straw get ready (only plant when combine is running), planting deeper than normal and the correct placement of weight to get the best results.

Dave, I will be up later this Summer to help you pick up all the parts...............metal detector.........hand held GPS............special trained JD parts sniffing dog..............(:
