I would be reluctant to go wider because I have seen where the competition effect of the crop against weeds is lost, and i think we don't realise how significant that is until we lose it. BUT i am literally half a world away and farming under very different conditions, and it would be unreasonable to expect that the same constraints necessarily apply. Generally we think yield loss tends to occur with wider rows, but can be offset by other advantages. The trick is to find the point at which the equation changes, while dealing with soil and climate variabilities. Everything is a compromise. |
