Everyone I know that had an Acadia has problems with the transmission. A solid SUV that size would be a toyota 4 runner, but I would just find a Tahoe if I were you. Your wife will get used to the size and the mpg will be around 20

3rd row seating and rear cargo storage in the Tahoe are terrible. Before buying our Traverse, we test drove a Tahoe (standard length) multiple times and loved the larger truck feel, but could not get over how poor the 3rd row and cargo space are.
