You know that thing about Clinton and his administration is they inadvertently put a lifeline out there that kept a lot of guys going through some pretty terrible markets in the 90's. Buried in one the farm bills of his administration was the little provision for LDP's. At the time I don't think anyone in that administration thought that it would ever come into play but they sure did in a big way. I really don't give Clinton credit for it but it is what it is.


I could make the argument that LDP is what fueled the rapid integration and flushing of independent producers from the hog business. 30-40 cent LDPs made it so that vast amounts of corn could be bought for less than the cost of production by outfits that only needed to have ownership of the sows and the packing plant.
