| torn - 4/7/2009 22:31Why does it matter? Unless you have money to burn, you're not going to buy the unit at a price that is unreasonable to you. If it's a reasonable price, then who cares what the markup is?If I think $20000 is a good price for a car, and I find a car that I like for $20000, why do I care whether the seller is making $500 or $5000 on the sale? He's happy selling at $20k, I'm happy buying at $20k. Sounds like it works for both of us. If the seller is making $5000 ($500 to $1000ish I don't care too much, he needs his profits) on the car, I can find a seller that will take much less. That's why it matters. "Reasonable" or not, there's no sense in throwing away $ unless you just have it to burn, need write offs, etc. Buy the car down the road for $17-18K and both parties can still be happy. One will be a little happier than the other of course but he's still making decent money (in my opinion). I don't begrudge dealers making profits at all, in fact a couple guys I deal with know I'm fine with them getting what they need to turn a profit and maybe a little extra. They also know to be real with me from the start (a practice started decades ago). I'm really not that much of a tight ass either as an fyi so if I think it matters, I can imagine a lot of other would feel the same..Just my .02, no offense.
