I am working on the same thing right now. What I am doing is creating a multi-year average yield map, then using that as a base for my planting rates. I use anywhere between 2 and 5 planting pops in the same field based on yield variability and knowledge of the field. I haven't been using any equations yet, just more of a X = Y.
