n.c.iowa | I see several posts about setting concaves and rotor speeds.
initially the concaves should be zeroed, setting numbers are meaningless unless things are zeroed. after that is accomplished a cob sans the grain should be measured, then that measurement+ 1/8'' should be set in the pinch point of the concave, the resulting concave number should be recorded, that is your base number.
that number is where the most efficient shelling will be,most times I find that number to between 2.5-3.2, then you adjust your rotor speed to the capacity you need. the shoe should be opened nearly wide open. the chaffer, front should be about 5/16'' the middle 7/16- 5/8'''' depending on kernel size, and the extension should be open about 5/16-3/8''.
