C IL | You can find used programmable motorolas on eBay for <$150. We are in the low band. Can also get PL tones and handhelds like emergency personnel have on their belt. Don't work for more than a mile, though, in the low band. The vehicle-mounted ones work up to 15 miles or more here with a decent line of sight and a good ground plane on the antenna.
I really don't know how we would farm without them.
