Not sure if 9420 has same issues as 9400 but my 9400 did the same thing . 7500 hours on it owned for 200 hours so don't know the history on previous repairs.Primed ,put electric pump in lower fuel line ,new fuel line etc, etc. Same issue. Was told it is and was injector cups.Deere recommends cups to be replaced 2500 to 3000 hours. I did this and it solved my problem. As i understand it the exhaust gets by the defective cups into the fuel galley. Also sucks air from cylinder while sitting off as fuel level is way lower than fuel galley.Good luck, bite the bullet and replace cups. Just seems to be the history of 12.5 or 13. liter engines.BTW JD tech. checked several times when i was shut down in the field and never found the problem.Replaced engine driven pump on back of engine and return /check valve at the same time.
Good luck
